Hello blinders I am getting L5 position at Amazon with 7 YOE at Cisco (software test). Is it good or bad? Should I ask for L6 position??
L6 is no longer hard at Amazon. Many people get to L6 5-6 years out of college. You should definitely ask for L6. Back in the day (5-7 years ago), L6 meant something. It no longer does. Especially for Software test, L6 will be no big deal for someone with Cisco experience. Folks from Indian consulting companies have gotten L6 SDET or QAE offers at Amazon. You'll kick ass. Go for it.
L6 5-6 years out of college is possible if you spent those years at amzn, external hires have a much higher bar for L6
OP, what is the offer?
L6 lives in a very gray area. In some orgs it's clearly defined, thus "easier" to achieve. But in a lot of orgs it's far more ambiguous so the perceived bar is much higher. But in general, Amazon is pretty conservative about hiring external candidates into L6. You can definitely ask to interview for that level, but if you don't knock it out of the park, then expect to be down leveled to L5.
I got an L6 offer with 6 yoe at Msft. Very much doable.
Thank all for inputs. I haven’t got the official offer yet from recruiter but he was asking me what should be my TC expectations for L5. What’s the market value for L5 eng at AWS

L6 at Amazon is hard. 7 yoe won't help unless it has been really good. Almost 90% of Amazon engg workforce is 4 and 5.
