L6 to L7 at Amazon

How long does it take to move from an L6 to an L7 at Amazon in marketing? Waiting for an offer at L6, most likely, so need to know what to expect. Assume scope and kickassery is there to warrant it 😁.

Statistically most people don’t make it to L7 at all. For those who do, the average tenure is right around 4 years.

Is it true across PM and PMT as well? They are hired at L6 right after MBA.

I've seen MBAs get managed out if they don't make it to L7 in 5 years (assuming they started as PM/PMT). Many MBAs also start in something like finance or retail and switch into PM after a few years. The clock restarts for them when they switch.

What’s driving that? How early should you start having convos to manage expectations? After 1 year?
