Have been recently promoted to 62. Interviewed at Amazon and negotiating for L6. In the negotiation, I told the recruiter that I've been 62 for the last 2 years and am awaiting 63. So, kinda convinced that L6(comparable to 63) is the right level. Recruiter verbally agreed that L6 is possible. Now I'm worried about Amazon doing a background check on the level duration. Does Microsoft reveal the time in a particular level? YOE: 7+ TC : 180 :(
Background checks typically reveal your title and not your level
L6 is a significant jump in responsibility from a 62-63. Pay and scope map to principal level at MS.
Ya, it's a good jump. I'm excited about it
You don’t negotiate your level at Amazon. The recruiter is lying to you.
False. Everything is negotiable.
Go tiger ! Remember you can even get L7 , but you will get so much stressed and your expectations will be so high, that you will get fired in 3 months - it’s always good to go at a level you will succeed and establish yourself - gives you time to win. So never lie , because it’s good for short term , not good for long term
I've already lied. So sticking to it. I will have to stretch everyday/ lick at every opportunity
TC for L6 Engg is at least $250. So, I doubt he bought your BS.
Doesn't really matter... Do the interview, and they'll calling accordingly. The L6 , is just so the loop is ready in case you're at that level
L6 responsibilities can really be taxing at Amazon, and if someone is not prepared for it, it can cause severe burns! ...Just a heads up I think it's also better to find more details around L6 expectations, and make sure you're meeting or exceeding the expectations already.
The recruiter pretty much has no say on which level you'll come in as. During the interview, you'll meet with a bar raiser and he or she will decide whether or not you meet the L6 bar. If not, they may consider you for L5 depending on whether or not the team you’re interviewing for has L5 positions available.
You can remove “pretty much”.
L6 possible but not to be expected from 62 or 63. Both normally map to L5. Will depend on interview performance
I've decided not to join as L5. I would rather stay here and rest
