L66 close to L67 looking to switch

I am expecting to get promoted to L67 this mid year, as told by mgr and skip.

But looking to switch.

TC is 400k @azure.

What will be good move? Money and work wise? How much can I reasonably expect.

If you can crack Google or FB, you will be swimming in $$$

At Google or FB, you will be:
    L6/E6 = you can hit ~$600k

I suggest start preparing well soon as it will take sometime. Also may want you consider the jump to L67 if you are close and then switch.

      L6 isn't 600k. Don't be silly. 400k for a 66 is pretty damn good to begin with.

Joining FB E5 with $400k TC (with sign on). I can see hitting $400k with yearly bonus + stock refresh + stock appreciation from 2nd year.

Also had L5 offer from Google which was slightly lower.

400k is the very upper end of where you'll see FB E5. MAYBE E6 gets to 600k with a massive sign bonus (for a year) or a larger than normal sign on + some good refreshers.

The salary is around 200+-10 for E6. Call the yearly bonus 20%. That's 240. Then you need to be making 360k per year in stock. That ain't happening.

The refresher for MA at that level is ~50k/y over 4y by the way. Maybe you can hit 600k near the end with stacked refreshers but it's not going to be your average TC at all.

What is the target refresher for E5 for you to reach 400k tc? I would assume at least 120k

      At E5:

      Target cash bonus = 15%
      Target stock refresher = $120k

Basically sign on will be swapped with cash + refreshers + stock appreciation to hit $400k from 2nd year

Thanks! I will interviewing soon and targetting E5 as well since I am 63 here. Curious to know what your level is as msft? And no of years of experience?

      L64. 9 yrs experience; 6 at MSFT.

It’s tough to get E5 / L5 as L63, but if you can kill the interview then yeah anything is possible.

      Good luck!

There’s no way you can hit $600k as L6...

Is levels.fyi not correct? It says 67 is e7/t7 equivalent. Why are you guys suggesting e5/e6?

It's hard to get e7, though.
But try if you feel it's the right move for you (skills wise, not money wise).

E7 is really hard to get externally. I knew one guy from MSFT that got L7 who had >20 years exp and was very senior. You better have a good brand and do really well in interviews such that directors or vps really want you.

IC6 the couple we have are god like engineering levels with scientific papers published and good influence on the overall industry (on aws, Microsoft etc).

IC5 you need to be as good as a principal but with pretty dense domain expertise, great sense of business, outstanding communication skills. It is like a 66 at msft

If you get to L67, you are already pretty close to the comp you will get in another company. If you like the job, stay and continue to grow rather than finding another job and proving yourself over and over.

What is the logic for MSFT levels being prefixed with 6? 66 vs 67 doesn’t sound like a big difference, numerically :)

I guess all these will become relevant when & if I can clear the interviews.

I hope to try at the big 4-5 companies. Will see what can I do. Will let you guys know :)

Meanwhile if any pointers on interview prep, please pass them along.

    Thanks.

Depends upon what offer you can get in other companies. Are you actively interviewing, do you have any offer? Are you an IC or manager?
