I'm considering LASIK as my optometrist has deemed my eyesight to be stable enough to go through with the procedure. For those who have done it - how long were you out from work for, and what did you have to do afterwards? Any side effects? Regrets? Curious to see what the Blind community experienced post-procedure since I'm assuming most of our jobs involve a considerable amount of facetime in front of computer screens which goes for me as well. I've worn contacts since 2006; OD/OS are both -7.00. TC: $0.99
I choose to stay... Blind 😜
LASIK is a modern miracle and I have had no reason to regret getting it over 4 years ago. A bit of pain right afterwards (unless you sleep it off like they tell you to), but I think I was roadtripping 1 or 2 days after I got it. Just have regular eye drops and checkups for the first month or so, and then you just move on with your life
I was eligible for lasik, still chose to do prk. Recovery is much longer than lasik. But it's a safer procedure where your eye will not have a permanent flap. Suggest reading the studies and medical papers around the two before you do either to feel comfortable.
I went for a Lasik consult and found out that I don't qualify due to my corneas being too thin. PRK was the alternative but the recovery time is weeks long and I couldn't make it work out. Your optometrist won't be able to tell if you qualify for Lasik vs PRK. Go get a free consult to find out. PRK has long term advantages which is why the military prefers it, but you'll need to be able to take a few weeks off from life.
Do check out Relex Smile before you decide. It’s the latest technique. Google “prk vs relex smile” and check the laser vue link for explanation of prk/ lasik/ RS I got rs done in India, and am very happy with how it went. (I’m not sure if it is widely available in the US yet)
How much did it cost in India (without insurance I assume)
1.2 L (about 2000 USD), no insurance. Now I believe it costs less than that.
I had PRK and was back in business 3 days later. You may have to adjust to halos.... but if you don’t drive then it’s not a big concern Procedure was fast.... 10-15 seconds per eye. Setting up was longer. Actual surgery.. it was fast
I had PRK it is a long recovery, it gets worse before getting better. Lasik I heard you are good right after the surgery.
How did you decide between prk and lasik
Thin retina, doctor said PRK would be the way to go
