Lab126 or Google?

Got offers from both place in the bay area and can't decide...

The project at Lab126 seems more interesting (its secret so can't know exactly what it is) but I'm afraid of the WLB. Anyone working there could comment? Do you also have free parking there or you need to pay?

Google seems to be the "cool" place to work at for sure with all the perks and free food. The project seems good also, although (like amazon) it's a secret one so can't really know exactly what it is.

L4 at Google and SDE3 at Amazon, so more money at Amazon and also a higher level. Stock also seems to have more upside.

Thank you

I would easily take an Amazon SDE3 on a new initiative vs a standard Google L4 role. SDE3s are given a huge scope at Amazon and you will have enough sway to dictate your WLB (as an L6 it’s expected you’ll push back when it’s too much).

BTW if it’s the project I’m thinking of you should probably take it!

How is Lab 126? Especially Fire OS Team to work as TPM?

Launch TPM on devices can be a rough role there. Do you know which team?

Considering that projects are all secret I’d go with the higher paying one. What’s the TC offered?

One thing to be aware of SDE3 in Amazon can be of very high bar and expectations - which in and itself is not a bad thing. But you will likely have other SDE3s in your org that climbed the ladder to SDE3 from within Amazon (promoted from SDE2) and they will very likely will have faster/easier time to navigate. Amazon does do stack ranking, so this is where it gets tricky.
But yeah money as SDE3 is pretty good and if you can pull off a secret project, you will have very likely some good experience in general. I think after SDE3 there is not much room for SDEs to climb up unless you go as SDM or IC.

As for secret project, I would still try to find out which stage the project is in. If it is like everything is in, just before the launch time then the otherwise "secret" project may only involve work that is scaling and other mundane tasks.

Secret projects are great place to learn and evolve. Sde3 is a great position in Amazon, excellent exposure and ownership. I would say talk to team members in that team to understand wlb. Not all team in Amazon suck. Your recruiter can help you get you in touch with existing team members
