What are the laptop choices for a new hire at Verizon? If I don't like the selection, are there BYOD options for me to provide my own?
When I worked there, there were no choices given for type of laptop. They were HP but the model is probably different now
No BYOD for IT. HP with 5 year replacement policy. Not good my friend.
Wow. Not even a Mac option? Are there choices from HP or does everyone get some variant of an 8 lb slab?
You get what you get. Most likely already used.
No BYOD can be connected to the network. Wireless options are pretty open. I have a surface book.. Others have Mac's. Wireline, when I was there used an office standards machine, usually an HP. Even BYOD phones will be out soon, as they are not allowed on the new GSuites system.
So Mac is available as an alternative to HP? I don't mind HP as long as it's not a brick. It sounds like Lenovo X1 is not an option at all?
Wireless or wireline?
Depends on your role. If your a developer, you might get a Mac, else you'll get a PC
Worked here 15+ years, admittedly never tried to ask about BYOD but I can say when I asked about a more powerful device I was told to accept what I got. HP elitebook. Bricks are their basic distribution, the elitebook isn't that heavy in comparison to others I've had so it's something I've held onto. I do know of a graphics artist that got a Mac. Depends on role and management. If the management will pcard something for you you're good.
Windows for most roles, or MacBook for developer, or if your MGR approves
Macs are becoming more acceptable. Ask before you start to get a Mac.
All depends on role and what your department uses, even exceptions can be made depending on business need, but win10 HP/Dell/Lenovo is typically standard
Mac in development role. Otherwise be happy if it can fold up and go in a bag.
