Layoff and rejections

I got laid off from vmware in January. I realized that was going to happen based on reading tea leaves. I thought I was prepared. I had couple of internal positions I was working towards and also worked on getting interviews at FB/Google/AMZ/Twitter/SF etc. but all I am seeing are rejections. And I am completely in despair. I am not technical, and I have lost hope that I’ll ever find a good job. I also worry that being older than average is working to my disadvantage- how does one pulls oneself out of the funk and get the confidence to do well again?

No trolls please. Looking for genuine feedback from folks in similar boat please.

The guy is asking for advice on a pick me up and you try to do it by kicking him down. Don't be a dick

No it’s not a pity party. I am looking for recommendations to get out of the pit. And no it’s not about you - I don’t think that you don’t have a good job. But my challenge with smaller companies is that they don’t need lot of PM/TPM talent and some of the first questions I get asked are whether I have worked for startups or small companies.
Finally I am asking for an advise on how to move on in face of rejection- I have an interview coming up, and I feel the rejections are weighing me down.

How do you not move forward? What's the alternative? Hit up your LI network for referrals. Try for smaller companies. Think about a different role, if applicable, to get a foot in the door. If you are older get a fresh haircut, modern clothes, up to date glasses, be energetic. Work on other areas of your life. Family. Friendship. Take a class in photography or whatever. The point is to give yourself something positive in another area of your life so Al is not misery. Know that everything changes. Good luck! You've got this. It's hard and it won't always be this way!

Thank you! I have already been rejected by FB. :(
And since I joined blind after losing VMware job, I don’t have pm option as it’s tied to company email address.

I can’t believe a PM with multiple years of experience can have trouble finding a job. Apple Microsoft tried them?

Not Product Mgr, program manager. I don’t think MS hires program managers. I have not tried Apple. That’s my next try.

Try Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. They are doing great stuffs and need people having a background around the work that VMware does.

Good luck. MS has title Program Managers but they all work on products, not sure if this helps.

If you aren't failing, you aren't working hard enough.

I see that you are in the right track. Failure is a part of the journey you are walking. Just ensure it doesn't divert you from your goal. Don't be let down by it, just keep pushing yourself. You will get what you want. Good luck!

Appear upbeat during interviews and walk in with swag. Prepare by thinking of your accomplishments and expanding on them. Know the culture of the company you are interviewing with and how your strengths compkement theirs

I’m also an Alexa TPM on the dev list looking for a gig, definitely not a place you want to be. I’ve recently had a phone screen with AAPL but didn’t seem to be a right fit. Just got to keep trucking and finding that path to green.

Base will be better than F/G. In the range of 225/250 +15% bonus. Equity probably 100-150k for 4 yrs. sign on negotiable.

Equity is low. What’s the range of sign on?

Does VMware just give 20k of sign on? Recruiter told me that equity is almost fixed and can’t be changed

You can negotiate sign on. It’s typically 10-20k, I negotiated based on what I was going to leave on table at my then job.
