Small company struggling financially , I am Director and have been informed that my boss CTO is part of the list. Should i try to save him making a case or think about myself and save my ass. I respect ctos technical skills but his bedside manners are highly questionable - multiple times i have thought about leaving the company because of his behavior. What would you do? One of the reasons is CTO costs too much , upwards of 500k.
You are a director and you are going to make a case to save a CTO? Hmm. Interesting. Not that we don’t know many CTO are “powerless” comparing to engineering directors. Think for yourself. Find a new job! Hurry! Tc?
Try to do both, first take care of yourself and if you can help a friend in the process
It sounds like you already have made your decision (don’t intervene for someone who you were considering quitting over), and you just want us to condone it.
My decisions of quitting were 4 year old, over the years i have learned to ignore the mannerism and focus on what i can learn from the CTO. Don't forget he is a CTO to begin with for a reason. I think CTO is making way too much money for what he is adding value to the company at this time.
Are you taking over his spot
Role for sure but not his title at this time. If we can turn around, may be yes.
Dude try for the CTO role, why would you even want to save him if he is toxic ?
Save your own ass I’m sure the CTO knew this was coming anyway if they drove their salary that high in a struggling company
Save your own ass
Ok done ,CTO gone.... More work , more learning and pursuit to survival.... Turn around or shut down.
Good luck
Sounds like a toxic b-player. Has the technical chops and experience within the org but makes everyone around them worse. Do not save
I agree to that. I have lost lot of good engineers because of his behavior.
