An ex member working for Oracle mentioned he was layoffed. I am considering him for my team. Is this true or was he fired? Adding more details: I was going to hire him till he went into a tirade of how bad the Oracle is doing and how they got themselves in a fix and how they are laying off a lot of people. I didn't see the layoff in news and hence started doubting the story
Well in either case, why donāt you see what individual has to offer. How technical competent he/she is rather than just passing over the candidate b/c of possibility of they were fired, instead of lay-off Is not being fired one of the requisite for job application.? If fired there can be N possibilities, one being not excited on what they were working on.
I suspect the OP may care to see if their candidate was being honest about being laid off rather than wanting to avoid someone who was fired. There's a big difference between someone who admits to being fired or deflects the inquiry vs a liar claiming layoffs.
If shameful, they not say. Not meaning bad person or bad hiring
Laid off. Layoffed is not a word. š
Thanks.
Thereās been individuals who been laid off from Seattle. So it is very possible.
If he was fired and wants to lie then he should have said he resigned because he felt his work was done there, and it was time to leave and take a break. Dishonesty is one thing, but to be bad at it is another. I will say the lay-off vs fired difference is really one in the same. You can be laid off because of budgets or canceled projects, you can also be laid off because things changed and youāre no longer the right fit. An employer has the right to seek the right staff, they should not remain burdened to keep someone on staff. I see posts about being Pivoted at Amazon and questions on its fairness or legality. WTF?! An employer has no obligation to keep you for any reason! The only reason this got touchy was because of rampant discrimination, and Iād hope that weāre past the worst of it. But itās not discrimination when youāre discriminating based on actual performance. Your coming here with this question makes you look just as sketch as the guy youāre talking about. I donāt think he would appreciate this, and you now look just as dubious.
Letās not demoralize OP. He was just looking for guidance (my opinion), and I think he realized and is probably on his path.
There were some SaaS folks in the Seattle building, not oci, seemed like good folks, marketing cloud I think. Heard there were some minor layoffs there earlier this year. Worthy of talking to.
Sounds good. I will keep an open mind.
Donāt read too much into the OCI Seattle Management too. They are very immature. and there is Cl....
There have been a series if rolling org alignments leaving some folks without roles (or became redundant). If the person had been with Oracke for a short time they could have been in that situation.
