Leave bay area for Midwest

Would you leave bay area for a Mid west (MO) startup company (disruptive iot tech) paying close to my current base for a better lifestyle and savings? And why would you do so? I dont mind moving to a different state but am concerned about the jobs scenario there.. not as many opportunities as in Silicon Valley and if I ever wanted to move back to here, would it be too difficult? I heard it's very hard to even get calls from the companies once you are outside bay. PS I am on H1B visa

Good luck finding a moving company. They’re booked for months due to the number of people moving out.

Do you live in Bay area?

Intel nononsense Aug 15, 2018

Where in midwest? Ames, Iowa? No. Chicago? Yes.

Denver, Yes

I won’t mind moving to Midwest. Bay Area is too expensive. In Midwest work life balance will also be good as compare to Bay Area. Less traffic, less headache

Did you ever work/live in midwest?

ServiceNow BlindJack Aug 15, 2018

I lived in Chicago for 3 years

As long as you are ok with hating the weather half the year, go for it.

Citibank Slurpsurp Aug 15, 2018

More than half the year. It’s cold AF and Hot AF for 10 months of the year. 2 great months tops.

Yeah, definitely something I must consider.. but what about the job opportunities? Is it easy to move back to bay?

I did it and hated it. Terrible weather and low quality engineers (I wasn't in Chicago). Food is also not that great.

Samsung maui OP Aug 15, 2018

Are you still in midwest?

Yes but hopefully not for long

I just moved from Chicago to the Bay Area. There are plenty of jobs in Chicago but they are mostly at old mature industrial companies with limited growth potential

Not to MO. If Chicago had a better tech scene id go there

Why not MO?

Cerner Darknight0 Aug 15, 2018

MO has 2 big cities. Below are some big names Kansas City: Cerner, Garmin, Sprint St. Louis: MasterCard, Monsanto, Enterprise, Equifax, NewBalance With being on H-1 and with current administration, I m seeing not many companies want to hire candidates who needs sponsorship
