Is it worth leaving software engineering for McKinsey or similar consulting companies? I am married but no kids. Role will require travel 80%. Would appreciate any pointers besides a simple Yes/No Tc:200
I've left consulting for tech job and I am lot happier
In tech consulting is not worth it since we can get better pay and wlb from tech companies without traveling every week..
Plus you do lot more BS in consulting, work for managers who don't really know tech
Consulting is purely a personal choice. It is long hours and a lot of travel but will give you great exposure. Few years in consulting and you could be back in industry few levels up than you will be otherwise.
Fair point. I’ve been contemplating it just so that I can be more social in my approach and develop some people skills which I currently don’t have much.
I thought the career point only applies if you were in a consulting position. I don’t think the same principle holds if you’re in tech looking to stay in tech?
