Leaving Amazon for Facebook / Twitter

Been at Amazon 2.5 years. L7. No near to mid term growth prospects. If I can get a level up / step up at FB or Twitter, would it make sense to jump ship given poor earnings performance and issues facing these companies?

Looking for growth but also stability (want options to be able to switch roles and also grow). Amazon provides first for sure, but growth is only in monetary terms for me and not otherwise.

If I get better starting compensation and a level up at F or T, should I leave A? Assume A’s stock will keep appreciating and we are unsure of F and T.

Business role.

As an L7, you have a lot of cool BD /sales options. AMG, Alexa, AWS, B2B etc. with twitter and Facebook it’s only ads.

      Not true.

FB is also Workplace and data/measurement/marketing partnerships. All of these are small teams with upside.

OP- In your place I’d work on Workplace. Extremely compelling b2b employee efficiency product

For sales and BD folks? Are these even externally facing?

They work with agencies and marketing partners (software to help buying/selling of ads - Kenshoo, etc)

Yes, it’s external-facing. I’m not close to the team so my context is limited

You have lasted 2.5 why leave now? Don’t you hit you 40% stock grant at 3 years? After that then I would leave.

Will complete 2.5 years this Sep where I get 20 per cent stock, have to stay till March to get the remaining 20 per cent stock. No growth prospects in role or responsibility and they don’t give you visibility with partners. Micro managing boss. Horrid team. FB and Twitter have good roles open where I feel I have a shot at lateral move or level up. My only worry is stability and mid term prospects at these companies vs Amazon. The only good thing about Amazon is that we are managing 40 percent YOY comp growth at a min due to stock appreciation

Makes sense, if you are looking for a better culture then Facebook or Twitter beat Amazon. What are of business are you looking for? Operations is what we are growing the most on so it has tremendous growth opportunity if you get in now.

I’m looking at content, partnerships or strategy roles - in emerging markets - mainly Asia - Singapore or India - at FB and Twitter. Does it make sense? Are the job prospects in these markets safe given FB is growing in emerging markets?

I would have to check on what FB has, but I believe we actually have boots on the ground out of our India and Singapore offices that handle it not In the US.

Don’t expect to get a step up at FB. They might step u down as L8 is a director at FB and sorry to say but Amazon L7 do not map to L7 FB let alone L8 FB unless u are a super rock star.

I feel that FB is not better than amazon, so really you would be jumping ship for nothing, unless pay is much higher

I sense sarcasm. I think it’s a valid question given financial earnings reports, over dependence on a declining revenue stream and recent media and legal attention

@FAANGStar, can you please list your TC in terms of Base/Bonus/Stock please, or send in DM if you prefer that? I have negotiations happening at same level and want to get an idea.
