I feel you homie. I'm 33 with 9yoe and already had enough of coding in life. Can't do anything else here in the valley as the pay sucks for other roles and mostly boring. Dunno what to do in life next

LC in itself is very principled and it forces you to think and follow a logical train of thought. The ability to distill problems into algorithmic constructs is still very much understated.

I think it started off as general test of your problem solving ability and if you can sketch out software solutions on white board. In its evolution, it took a wrong turn and we have these 20 min tests of leetcode hard with no bugs. No one understands the reason for that turn though

      Supply & Demand.

Money always wins. If there was more supply, companies will just reduce the salary and have the same interview process. I think ego is more at play here.

I think you’re misunderstanding the supply and demand comment. If there was LESS (not more) supply of engineers, then companies would reduce the interview standards. But bc there’s so many qualified engineers, top companies can afford to have a high false negative rate.

I understand your point but I was just wondering why didnt the companies maintain the same standard and reduce pay instead of increasing pay and having tougher interviews. I guess these FANG companies have very high profit margins with which they can afford to pay higher, so they raised the bar in what they think is the best way.

The same principles will apply. LeetCode is just a platform.

Good question. We can’t know the end, but when did it start?
