L66 is Principal band. Could be principal engineer, principal engineering manager, could even be director depending on the org.

Director is a management title, not a seniority title. Principal is right above Senior in the seniority ladder. Partner is above Principal. In management ladder, director is usually above manager. A director could be a principal or a partner

Director is just a title, it depends on different org. In my eng org, Partner = Director = GM.

Director can be just principal in sales or marketing.

Title doesn't matter, that's a job description. Senior->principal->partner are the level bands, 63/64->65/66/67, 68/69/70. When it comes to where you actually rank and what you get paid that part is all that matters.

My old boss was a 65 but his title was "principal director of engineering", new boss is the exact same level and job and his title is "principal engineering manager".

Thanks M$Underpay. That’s a very helpful answer. What are the levels for non eng roles?

@No!: those titles are organization specific. Also, there's 2 ladder, management ladder and seniority ladder. ceo/vp/director/manager/lead etc. Are all management titles and the name used to call then in different orgs can change.

There is an over lap in all levels when you move across companies with m:n map. Stop fighting which is where mapped. Just pick one Job id, prepare for it and then go for internal. How you perform in interview is going to matter on whether you get proper mapping or not.
