We're in the midst of annual review season at Airbnb, and I've got a couple of solid offers from other companies. Not keen on leaving quite yet, but thought of leveraging these offers to get a more significant raise. Make sense? Dumb move?
What companies?
I'd rather not say, but smaller, earlier stage, well funded, exciting places
Isn’t the main incentive of working at airbnb the equity anyways? I’d stay at least til it ipo’s. Salary isn’t everything.
There are many reasons to stay at Airbnb.. but these offers include better terms overall and a higher level position
Doesn’t your manager give you enough work to keep you occupied? It seems like you are able to find plenty of time and days to interview onsite at other companies without a real desire or solid reason to switch..
The desire here was to increase their compensation. If they get a raise out of it, it's time well spent.
I don't think it is wise to do unless willing to depart from the role over comp. If you have offers you could very well get a retention raise, but if it was beyond what they think you're worth then they will make contingency plans to make you dispensible next time it comes up, I'd think

Tipping culture is really getting out of control! Waiter gave me ‘a look’ because I tipped her 10% for ‘BAD service!’
Say you think you are being paid under market and when they say no say you have numbers to show
Makes sense, but I wonder if that kind of move can hurt my relationship with my manager for example. Or is it just business and part of the game.
Say you want to stay just prove your point about the market. Doesn't have to damage. Maybe 'ask' if they'd like you to interview. If they are confident they're paying Market they'll tell you.
