In US, I think it’s a rule that companies cannot ask for proof like offer letter etc. Why don’t y’all lie? Is it morals or am I missing something. Thanks
The recruiter will have a general sense of what competing offers are like. I'm sure some are also good at spotting liars, too.
Because they are liars themselves.
You can also lose your offer.
Lots of people lie and that’s like a gamble. Whatever you think you are doing, it is up to company whether to match it or not. There is always a risk of company walking away when they think you are not that worth
Just lie. Negotiation is like playing cards, u can bluff all u want
"I am all in"
What do you mean? Do you lie about other offers?
I always lie about offers.. that how I get my interview result faster.. plus... if they ask I can say it is verbal offer.. in most cases I have seen companies come back and tell me this max we can do... in rare case they ghosted me... because they can’t afford my expectations... just recommendation do you homework from blind/levels/your mentor/friends and come up with realistic number for your yoe.
Don’t do this. Recruiters have friends who are recruiters in other companies as well
That is a real concern
let's say you were a recruiter, one of your past colleague asked you about your hiring details about a certain candidate, would you risk you own job and tell your friend the truth?
always do that. You can't get anything written before accept an offer. so who would even know it's real or not.
Also OP, what if they ask about what company? If you say big name you can very well get caught by recruiter using his network, alternatively you say smaller company then they will look up hem up on crunch base and say “ well bla bla there series B and we’re public so can’t compare” etc A good recruiter will make it hard
I sometimes lie sometimes not. I have no issue doing this. Recruiter are lying through their teeths also. Unfortunately it's the State of the industry. It's very sad but it's the terrible game you need to play... I have once had a recruiter asked me to ask for a proof of competing offer and I told him that by respect for the other companies where I interviewed, I refuse to forward offers. He understood and still matched. At the end of the day it's a game.
You lie because you want them to match that imaginary number. In many cases, to match, the recruiter will ask for the competing offer letter. Where are you going to provide a fake offer from?
Most companies do not issue a formal offer letter without verbal consent. So asking for proof can be deadlocked.
