Life at Disney

Anyone here work for Disney? I’m interested in a role that popped up. I would really like to hear people’s experiences there though.

The 2 people I know likes it. Only complaint was the traffic to Burbank.

Also free annual ticket to Disneyland. That’s worth $6000 if you have a family of 4. Also there are Disney character events for kids in the office.

Disney sithoflord Feb 15, 2018

Please explain how is Annual pass for 4 worth 6000

Hortonworks ruJB85 Feb 15, 2018

Sorry, More like $4000. Assuming an annual pass for 1 person cost $1000.

That only matters if you can go on weekdays and don’t mind only going to California Adventure. The blockout dates are pretty much every weekend now. It will get worse after the Fox acquisition is complete.

Great place to work depending on your team. Amazing culture. Slow rate of career growth. Very high satisfaction and low churn

They talked about how id be a great fit and then ghosted me.

Disney safepocket Feb 16, 2018

Workplace satisfaction differs greatly from segment to segment, so it really depends. Which business unit is this role under? DCPI, DATG, Studio, etc...

Disney SSGF42 Aug 28, 2018

Avoid DATG, “Media IT/Software Solutions” and WDAT. WDAT has 5 (not kidding) layers of architecture that are not up to speed on the latest technology trends and capabilities)...you’ll be working in the Stone Age while justifying projects that cost millions instead of thousands

DATG and WDAT? Meaning?

Disney xoiE80 Mar 9, 2018

Expect an offer at 30% under market value. This is Disney’s target.

Disney disManFucs Mar 10, 2018

All segments?

Disney visuals. Jul 6, 2018

From what I remember, yes.

Disney SSGF42 Aug 28, 2018

They’re still 30% under market. It would be fine if they offered a pension still - but they don’t.

Disney Nipha Oct 16, 2018

They do, to executives.

Disney jaredsgirl Nov 4, 2018

I do and it sucks. It’s re-org after re-org. The more you know the harder they work you. While shitty people get to sit back and do nothing. The managers don’t know shit and don’t do shit. As for the annual pass, most weekends are blacked out and we are so short staffed that we can’t really take days off during the week! I’d go somewhere else. I’m trying myself.

Disney Nipha Nov 7, 2018

Seconding everything you’ve said.

Disney GKgi22 Dec 12, 2018

I’m thirding all of this. The mediocrity in management and execs is real. In three years, I can count on one hand the people who actually do the job they were hired to do. The rest are in mental retirement. If you’re a top performer at any reputable tech firm and don’t want to trade money, career advancement and your self worth for the benefit of occasionally visiting the Parks and going to the Disney Stores sample sales, be smart and go somewhere else. Go to FAANG or similar and you will make far more money, have more career ops, stay relevant in technology and be able to pay for your own damned ticket to Disneyland. And with FOX coming onboard, the reorgs will only get worse (we’ve already been through 6 reorgs in 3 years). I’m so happy I’m resigning next month.

Working as an intern at WDAS. I like the working atmosphere here. And everybody is working hard to create wonderful animated movie. They provide a whole bunch of free screening and art classes. I am trying to stay here as a full time employee now. Hope I can make it.
