LinkedIn better than FANG

I’d rather work for LinkedIn than Facebook, Apple, Netflix or Google. Great SF location, generous compensation and benefits, great work life balance, product is more ethical (non addictive, consumer isn’t the product), good food... why would anyone choose to work for FANG? (Other than perhaps, brand name)

Tech isn't super great. Internal tools are pretty garbage. Compensation may be good but it's less predictable compared to G/FB, e.g. you don't really know how much you'll get in refreshers, where as G/FB have more predictable targets.

Are you trying to bounce?

Thanks for the info; personally I think it’s worth it to not have the super long commute to work

I love what LinkedIn stands for but their user experience especially their mobile apps are much lower in quality compared to other fang (not amazon) apps. Also for a lot of people the product they work on matters a lot. Someone might want to work on writing systems software for a phone while someone might want to build a scalable distributed system for whatever. Everyone’s career interests vary.

In what world is Apple unethical / uses consumer as the product? You’d work for a company with weaker infra, lesser scale, irrelevant news feed - why? Because the product isn’t addictive aka doesn’t interest you? I’m not even sure you know what you’re talking about. You think the leadership at LinkedIn is thinking “hey, how can we make our site less attractive and addictive coz our goal is to make people spend less time on it”? What do you think msft purchased LinkedIn for? Just the consumer information. You *are* the product even at LinkedIn.

I don’t like how Apple is going backwards and making users pay for more and more changing accessories. I like that LI is non-addictive (as opposed to FB or even Zynga that uses micro-transactions).

Apple RoidRage Jul 5, 2019

Don’t be mistaken. LinkedIn is still about engagement. Or at least that’s what their current problem is. I say this as someone who finds LinkedIn incredibly useful.

At the end of your career, if you’ve worked at any of them, you’ve done well financially and for your family.

Come back after working at at least 1 company you mentioned here

Accenture newbieSF OP Jul 5, 2019

Good point. How do I update my company on here?

Google rafaNadal Jul 5, 2019

By logging in with your official company Id (aka brand new profile)

You know that joke: why football players date models? because they can. I’m just kidding here, no pun intended

1) WLB and culture: Li > FANG 2) Initial TC: N > Li > Fb/G > A 3) Refreshers: Fb/G > Li 4) Perks: Li/G/Fb/N > A 5) Brand (according to blind): G > Fb/N >Li > A 6) Tech: G > Fb/N/A > Li 7) Ethics: ? > Fb I’ll be joining Li soon

Accenture TechieSF Jul 5, 2019

Me too. WLB, culture, TC, perks are super important. I couldn’t work for FB due to ethics (though I might interview to try to get a basis for a counteroffer). I don’t much care about brand or tech. Skipping the long commute to work every day would be amazing.

Netflix LoveDeathR Jul 5, 2019

I wonder what perks G has over N besides gym. Netflix allowed you to Uber to/from office. 2 weeks paid dependent care. 3.5% 401k match on a high base. Option plan that can make it a leveraged return. Up to 1 yr paid paternity leave. Sounds pretty good to me.

LinkedIn iamdonenow Jul 5, 2019

Wlb depends on the team. There are a lot of teams with no wlb and toxic culture in LinkedIn.

Facebook a1234000 Aug 28, 2019

Any teams to avoid? Just got an offer for a product role at LI.

Nutanix cfgffgjji Jul 5, 2019

Is it the Accenture guy saying LI is better than FAANG? 😂

Amazon CsRr26 Jul 5, 2019

Netflix lets you uber to and from work holy shit lol
