Is LinkedIn Eng brand hyped alot OR Is it actually at par with Google and FB ?
I see LinkedIn getting compared with Google and FB many times on blind and is definitely considered better than MSFT and Salesforce. Why is it ?
It's been one year and joined from Amazon and ex MSFT, I think Amazon also had equally good people.

I am genuinely looking for reasons what is so special about LinkedIn ?
BTW - I loved it here so far because I don't have to work over weekend and employee care is amazing :-)

Total Hype . All great talented engineers left the company way back . Nowhere close to G/ FB/ N .

Stock price tripling wouldn’t matter if you are offered less to begin with. 40k with 300% growth vs 100k with 180% growth.

We get annual refreshers every year . I got more than my initial grant every year. Plus our espp lock in rate is for 2 years ( I got my espp locked at $35 ). That is why stock tripling did help us .

I can attest. PayPal is no where compared to LinkedIn or any other upper companies. It's a tier 2 company that's trying to gain more customers but as Google pay/apple pay/ Facebook checkouts coming up, they are doomed. Frequent reorgs and most awkward part is that they don't believe in hiring CS grads - mostly boot camp code monkeys who don't know how stuff works

I don't think too many people will claim LinkedIn eng brand is on par with G/FB. That being said LI offers can match or beat those from G/FB ( well, beat G at least, I know they matched FB for a couple of friends but I don't have any anecdotes of them exceeding FB offers), excellent perks & benefits, talented colleagues, good work (team dependent) & good culture. I personally consider LinkedIn a sort of tier 1.5, not quite at the level as FNG, but close.

Lol I moved from Linkedin to Paypal 😜. Did I compare Paypal to Google /Facebook ? I think every company has good talent . Google / FB has best tho.

You seem like an odd one out. LinkedIn has very good folks some of whom came from fb and g. You might have not been able to keep up with other folks at LinkedIn. PayPal is mediocre place and no one would go for it over LinkedIn.

In my time at LinkedIn I have witnessed nothing but mediocrity on the engineering side. I don't understand how someone working at LinkedIn seriously believes we are doing well on that side, it is a colossal shitshow of bad decisions that never get rectified and failed projects.

Duh, of course. LinkedIn fosters and nurtures mediocrity, it's who we are. It's a good place to work on your startup on the side like I'm doing or to have time for hobbies, but not a place where good work is rewarded.

Google and fb (and unicorns like AirBnB) are the most sought after tech companies.
Linkedin is probably next and definitely better than other top tech companies like Apple and Amazon.
    Why?
Better perks, WLB and pay. Good hiring bar —close to google/fb— ensures smart colleagues to work with.

I would say only infra and ml has good engineering talent. Rest of linkedin is meh.

I bomeranged back to LinkedIn from fb. LinkedIn has really good culture and wlb is way better than any companies I worked for. Engineering in application is not at par with fb, Google but infra is great. LinkedIn does low ball but MSFT stock has gained a lot in past years which helps

Why work any pure website company? Do they even have any more engineering businesses that produce different successful products? Seems like the definition of low ceiling. Also heard there's no concept of WFH there.

Unless they're going to use AI to automate all the known jobs away based on our freely given data... oh shit maybe they will and it's better to get on board now then.

Doesn’t matter. Most of them go after money. In my opinion, LinkedIn can pay(many at times better) either Google or Fb’s.
