I recently interviewed with LinkedIn for senior software engineer role. Got call from recruiter that hiring committee wants to proceed and team matching needs to happen. But she is trying to downlevel me to software engineer. If I stay firm with senior position will they revoke the offer? Should I call her bluff? Yoe: 6 yrs Current TC: 240 New TC: 220
Grade at Cisco? 8? Huge downlevel. Don't do it. Their non-sr level would be <2yoe typically, yes? See levels.fyi
Well, as long as you are polite and decent about it, I don't see a reason why they will revoke your offer. No company does that. But having said that, there's no 'calling her bluff'. Downleveling is decided by the interview panel because you did not perform well enough in one of the interview rounds, due to which they did not find you suitable enough for the SSE role. However, they are of the opinion that you have the potential to do well if you start at the SE level. Also, is LinkedIn really not matching your TC at Cisco?
I think their highest band for SE is 220-240k, so it should be just a match, best case.
Why are you accepting an offer with lower TC at another mature company? Are you planning to negotiate?
Yes, need to negotiate
240k in Cisco with 6 yoe? What’s your level? Which Bu?
There is a reason for downlevel. Its usually coming from interview feedback, not recruiter. I cant say for sure but usually when interviewers aka the eng suggested to downlevel on feedback that means you didnt pass the senior bar, so you cant be hired at that level.
Many companies use staffing n compensation team to determine the level .. It might not be direct reflection of your interview performance.. Don't budge ..
Not LinkedIn. It is purely a hiring committee's decision.
You can stay firm if you already have any other offer at hand or potential offers . Otherwise it is better to accept software engineer role. Could you please share your interview experience. Did you apply through any job portal or through reference ?
