LinkedIn to Google, FB for 20% raise

I’m considering to make a move from LinkedIn to FB or Google to get 20% raise in total comp. My info: - LinkedIn staff SE, 7 years of experience - Current TC around 400k: 190 base, 15% bonus, 180 RSU. If I make a move, mostly I will end up with L5 in Google, FB because L6 is pretty hard to get for me. So is it possible to get TC of 480K/year for L5 at either Google or FB?

480TC at E5 is basically impossible. You're getting 180k RSU per year at LinkedIn?!

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017

Yes, but not from initial offer.

Snapchat GoSnappy Nov 22, 2017

That's unreal! Congratulations. I doubt you'll get that matched at E5 for FB or GOOG. Worth noting, FB has wayyyy bigger refreshers than MS/LI.

Impossible

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017

What is max TC comp for L5 at FB?

Facebook soundgal Nov 22, 2017

190 base, 500k rsus is the max I have seen

I am sure your rsu comp of 180k is not a projected number for next 4 years. You got some rsu in betwen and now you are extrapolating it. Also you seem to be preparing for naming the child without finding girlfriend. Get an offer first.

Facebook soundgal Nov 22, 2017

Given the effort required, it makes sense to asses what is possible. Especially when the comp is already high..

Sir, this is called planning. If the goal is not possible, why should I waste time preparing and doing interviews?

Sorry for dump questions. :) What is: L5, RSU, TC?

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017

RSU = restricted stock unit, TC = total compensation, L5 is a level at Google, Facebook.

The max I've seen at G for l5 is around 850k rsu. 5 competing offers including Facebook and Apple. That was a special case though and initial offer was much lower. In my case I had competing offers too (not from Fb though), and got 550k rsu (initial offer was 450k in rsu). In hindsight I think I could have gotten 600k-650k if I had asked for more. Also base at G tends to be lower, with around 187 or so you'll be top of the band and won't get merit increases till you're promoted. Bonus is nice due to individual multiplier and getting 17-18% should be doable. Equity growth is also great given how the stock market has been doing. That said, if you're happy at LinkedIn investing your time in getting to senior staff maybe a better time investment (assuming 400k is sustainable for next few years) than the brutal soul wrecking interview process

That’s really helpful and your suggestion totally makes sense. Plus, MSFT is doing well, too.

How good are you at leetcode and HackerRank type puzzles?

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017

I’m very confident about my coding skills. Passing Google, FB coding questions would not be an issue for me.

Ok mr arrogant go and clear and dont bother us.

Heh ( for comments above) Go FANG (for brand). Don't take a step down in level. Your level will decide your money (impact , visibility , exposure etc) over next 10 years. Stay at MS (already get the scale) and get to the top. 20% after tax - you won't even notice the difference in paycheck

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017

FYI, LinkedIn (not MS) staff SE is ~ Google, FB L5. So the move is assumed to the same level.

Google idontlikeu Nov 22, 2017

it doesn't matter what happens in practice. this downgrade will be a red flag on your resume.

Apple Bnhjk56 Nov 22, 2017

Is $180k rsu because of promotion or stock appreciation or you get that regularly every year?

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017

Appreciation and stock refresh, but not promotion.

Google TUrt62 Nov 22, 2017

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017

LinkedIn BlindnilB1 OP Nov 22, 2017
