Interviewed at LinkedIn this Monday. Got a reject today. I could do all the coding questions under the stipulated time. I think I did kind of okay in system design as well. Tech communication and mangerial round also went well. I was confident of getting an offer. I have started contemplating on what went wrong. Have emailed recruiter for the feedback. I had a great experience interviewing. Met some very smart people. I will be applying again after the cool off period. It will be helpful if somebody can give some insight what LinkedIn is looking for so I can prepare in the right direction and be in better shape the next time.
I am an interviewer for Software Engineering interviews and can give you some feedback. PM me
Will ping you
What role did you interview for? It is possible that you are interviewing for infra team which means u have to do well in System Design.
I interviewed for applications team
What type of position were you interviewing for?
I interviewed for Software Engineer - applications. I do have 3 years of experience, but currently I am pursuing masters and I am in my final semester
So not sure if I was treated as new grad or experienced. The job profile for which I got call had requirements as Masters and 2 years experience though
I think mock interview is helpful. Normally a good interviewer doesn’t give you any hint whether you pass or failed. Or more of times, you feel you passed even though you messed up something. I personally feel their hiring bar is pretty high. I don’t know. If you really think you did well and you really like this company and you can probably ask for down-leveling there might a chance.
I have 3 years of experience and currently I am enrolled in final semester of masters degree. Not sure if I was considered new grad or experienced. The job requirements had masters with 2 years of work experience though.
I am on the hiring committee, that means we decide based on feedback wether to move forward or not. If you did not get the offer that means you probably did poorly in at least one module & most of you other ones weren’t great either. Also if you are interviewing for staff level then you are judged more strictly.
I am masters student with 3 years of experience. It was not for staff level.
I have asked for feedback from the recruiter. Waiting for the response. If I could get a feedback it would be greatly helpful. Do you think recruiters share feedback for rejected candidates?
One bad interview will get you rejected.
even for new grad roles?
Glad to see you take the rejection in the right spirit. Interviews always have a bit of luck as well. Luck in terms of the interviewers you get, the questions they ask, your familiarity with similar questions, the feedback they write etc. As much as a company might try to eliminate these, they will invetitably play a part in the final decision. So do try again. A few things to reflect on would be: - did you solve the questions in a reasonable amount of time and in an efficient manner - was your code modular - did you think about complexity - did you test your code with examples before calling it done - did you catch and fix bugs (and not be patchy about it) - did you communicate well about your design and thought process - did you take hints in the right spirit and work off of them - did you think about the problem holistically and ask questions to clarify assumptions Also since you have 3 years of experience I think interviewers could be expecting you to be better than an Entry level talent.

Sorry to hear. Smart move asking for feedback. Sometimes it’s not a perfect process and there could be other reasons you weren’t hired out of your control. It’s hard to tell what went wrong without info on your specific process so the recruiter is the only person who can really help shed light (unless you know someone else close to or on the team)
I have sent connection request to all my interviewers, if they'll connect I can ask them. But I doubt as I think it will probably against the LinkedIn's policy. Let's see if I could get some feedback from the recruiter. After clearing the phone screening I got a pretty solid feedback which helped me in preparing for the on-site. Hope to get something similar.
Asking for feedback this way is not cool and would very likely annoy the interviewer. Just do mock interviews if you want feedback.
