Linkedin vs Google new grad

New grad, which one. Linkedin 180k TC Google 160 tc Google name is better and more consistent refreshers it seems. Microsoft stock is doing much better though. Worth the 20k diff? How much refreshers can I expect to get at linkedin first year if I exceed expectations?

You know deep down where you are going to join ;)

LinkedIn Gill Bates Dec 1, 2018

LinkedIn, obviously. Our cafeteria is better and our bikes aren't death traps like gbikes.

Partners HealthCare mDsQ68 Dec 1, 2018

Given the number of likes Google guy got, I have a strong feeling OP will obviously join LinkedIn :)

LinkedIn Cjqc41 Dec 1, 2018

There was a time when Google did no evil.

Microsoft do_needful Dec 1, 2018

Google sucks. Join LinkedIn.

I'm impressed with your work at Microsoft and think you'd be a great candidate for a new position at a hit startup named "one of Kansas city's best places to work" in Forbes. Please let me know when you have some time to set up a quick chat

Microsoft do_needful Dec 1, 2018

Sounds good. Please reach out to me to set up the interview.

Google

Google Groogle Dec 1, 2018

Google. Refreshers will make it up for you, also guaranteed bonus, and a better brand that you can use to to anywhere else

Twitch Qwernry Dec 1, 2018

Still a pretty darn good brand name

Bloomberg iVX372 Dec 1, 2018

My previous roommate chose LinkedIn over Google, with SWE offers from both. His rationale was that interviewing at LinkedIn gave him the impression that people are more collaborative and helpful there than Google. He's an ex Amazonian, so that may have been especially important to him

Microsoft do_needful Dec 1, 2018

Agree. Googlers are arrogant dicks. I had a good friend and he became an arrogant dick the next day after he joined Google.

Google Groogle Dec 2, 2018

^ probably you became over-sensitive about it

Partners HealthCare mDsQ68 Dec 1, 2018

Google has a lot of boring maintenance work for SWEs, be prepared to take on such work if you join Google. My choice would have been LinkedIn, given my situation.

LinkedIn li1f2h8o3s Dec 1, 2018

Well atleast Google has a LOT of boring work. LinkedIn has little boring and almost no exciting work in most of the orgs. Top that with little kingdoms inside LinkedIn trying to protect their territory. You have one heck of a political thriller which largely prevents you from moving the needle.

LinkedIn u86R9 Dec 1, 2018

OMG please tell me what team you’re in because my team is so overworked we need a break

LinkedIn REUW36 Dec 2, 2018

If you do well 1st year at LinkedIn you'll be looking at a senior engineer promotion. That'll be much better than any refresher

Amazon pfjendir OP Dec 2, 2018

Assuming I get meets all, what's promotion velocity to senior like? What about refreshers for meets all first year? Will be in infra

LinkedIn !lnkd Dec 2, 2018

No concept of std refreshers. You perform well, > MA, you get more 💰. RSU and base. Bonus is generally 1.5x target because the company is doing great. This is what people miss most about LinkedIn vs other companies (f,g). + Higher chance of impactful work than g. + Say you work 1x in g to get MA, traditionally you'd get EE in l. That way your l 💰 will knock g 💰 out of the park. If you rest you'll get fired in f, vest in g & l. + Better food + Better collaboration. People are generally helpful and aren't entitled. + Promo with EE in 1-1.5yr. Of course, none of these apply if you are going to data infra. That is like g without g refreshers.

Google KuJA63 Dec 2, 2018

Pretty sure Google will match your LinkedIn offer. They usually try and beat. You can get your cake and eat it too.

LinkedIn !lnkd Dec 2, 2018

Vice versa.

NVIDIA ljf nAcoi Oct 21, 2021

Given the linkedin offers I am seeing on levels.fyi, pretty sure linkedin will match and also beat Google TC, even when Google isnt lowballing...
