I worked as a QA engineer before i got a CS degree. I now work as an SDE. Is is QA experince a plus on my current resume? Or will I be negativly stereotyped by listing it? I look younger than I am, so I feel like I could leave off everything prior to my CS degree if that is better. resume from most recent to oldest: 2+ years SDE CS Degree 1.5 years QA small startup 2 years QA large company okay reputation Econ degree TC: 190k
I always avoid QA when I’m screening resumes
Why?
People generally assume they don’t have the skills necessary to succeed in a SWE role.
Same situation OP, got hired as SDET after 6 years of QAE at respectable Amazons competitor. When it was time for promotion previous QA experience helped my manager to make a stronger case for promotion. I had couple years of development experience, so she turned it like “$NAME has a 7 years of industry experience” Which level are you Op? And which location?
SDE II at a satellite US location
Sure but highlight shit like how you troubleshooted prod issues and led people. The routine testing stuff ain't gonna impress nobody

I haven’t done shit today!
2 year SDE with 190 TC is quite good. A lot of senior SDE have similar TC.
