I sometimes wish to leave this routine run to the mill life of an engineer, this rat race of TC!! I more than often dream to move to some small coastal town( ideally in Europe) and own a small mom-and-pop business ( cafe or something) for sometime and then get back to engineering if that doesn’t work out well. Haha Has anyone ever explored such an option? In some coastal town nearby like Carmel? Suggestions, advices, places/ businesses to consider? how much money we talking about? Risks? Disclaimer: I’m very happy with my current job so please don’t advice job switch. This is primarily a life question.
I think I read about a couple who tried that with an English pub, lost all their savings and returned to their day jobs in US. Might have been on quora
Oops haha...possible to share the link?
Early Retirement
I sometimes wish I wasn't birthed by my current parents and was either not born or instead birthed by [the Eligible] groups of people. That way, I would only be subjet to a fraction of the disenfranchisement, mockery, lies, disinformation, shame, manipulation and pain that I currently deal with.
Ok I wish your wish comes true soon.
You are sorely underestimating the stress of running a cafe or other small business. You’ll have to work a lot harder for a lot less. If you’re ok with that, I’d certainly consider it - if you work front of house you’ll get to meet some great people
I know a relative who moved back to India after spending 12 years in Seattle. He has saved and invested in real estate only. Now his monthly rental income is similar to anSr SE's monthly income at Microsoft India. Since he moved to India, he has been trying out farming, live stock, and organic farming. He has no plans to go back to the US or the corporate race. Now he is in late 40s and is enjoying life this way. Anyone with decent planning can take such a plan. So, plan for a consistent monthly income and then dance around.
Moh Maya see mukti lena.. Itana asaan nahi hota. See this man who is into 40 still wants to keep his parents dying alone [Blind] Check out this post! How do you take care of aging parents back in India? (Health) https://us.teamblind.com/s/iVQwVQoF
Yes. Get jobless relatives to come in, and they mill form a big community where all can gather. You've seen those videos where the boys will cook mammoth meals for schools? That's what those communities will be like. Maybe I can join them. If they will accept me.

If u r single, hell yeah, I recommend Hawaii instead of Europe since I think Hawaiian people are having real happy, happy from heart. If you’re married or even have a kid. You might want to think twice. Best wishes!
I too want having happy from heart
Why do people think it's so easy to move to Europe. Don't you need visa sponsorship? Is there a reverse-blind somewhere full of Americans talking about issues with their EU equivalent of H1b and about being too short and finding it hard to date local girls?
