Hero Chicago cops bravely invaded a kid’s birthday party after going to the wrong house. They pointed guns at children, ransacked the house, and arrested an adult who asked to see the warrant. https://www.essence.com/amp/news/children-terrorized-had-guns-pointed-at-them-after-chicago-police-raid-wrong-home-during-birthday-party/
Terrible. This will scar a kid. I wonder how many times they accidentally mistake upper middle class suburban homes for raids?
Typical Ellis has to turn this into a race issue
Have an article showing this situation happening in a white neighborhood?
Not a “race thing,” but a US racism thing. I’m sure some of those cops could have been black. But poor folks and particularly poor black folks are treated as de-facto threats by our media, politicians and police... even when they are only in the second grade.
To be fair Chicago isn't going to prosecute black actor Jussie Smollett either for staging a hate crime. More to do with connections and money than it being a race thing. Poor people will be treated poorly everywhere in the world.
Those are interconnected in the US. Poor people get treated badly by police in the US but poor black people (or Latino or Native American depending on the region) are treated as automatic threats and “the enemy” by police—even black cops.
It may not be fair but when your life is on the line, stereotyping is automatic. Even the slightest possibility of death puts people on super high alert. I understand why they do it because I would probably do the same under duress.
Looks more like “going to the wrong address while being Police” to me.
The same thing would have happened if the police accidentally went to ken griffin’s mansion?
It does. Who is ken griffin?
Why don’t you ever blame all of the other blacks who are in gangs and sell drugs, which puts the community as a whole in danger? Wouldn’t that prevent mistaken identities?
No. If you read the article, what would have prevented the mistaken identity would have been if police did a recent search of the suspects address. Like the law firm did. Don’t be so dumb
Now where did I put my throwin’ egg?
Race or not reading the article just pisses me off at the incompetence shown by public officials time and again. The lawyer representing the family said his law firm took a 30 second Google maps search to find the correct address listed on the warrant which sounds reasonable. You have 20 officers (swat maybe?) Ready to commit several hours to a raid and nobody can verify the fucking address? Terrible and embarrassing. I hope to God that family wins the lawsuit. Sure, people make mistakes .. then they face the consequences.
Plus the perps at the real address would have seen it all go down and vamoosed
Good point
