Current TC is 120k in Los Angeles, moving to San Francisco in August starting a new job with total compensation of 380k. What is a reasonable budget I should look at for housing without unnecessary spending on luxury?
If you really save, you might be able to afford gems like these https://www.redfin.com/CA/Mountain-View/212-S-Rengstorff-Ave-94040/home/2120611
That is a true gem
you can order one of those on Amazon www.marketwatch.com/amp/story/guid/C1ED72EC-7CAC-11E9-AB96-FE6A71633EEB
Great TC, what company is this and what’s your yoe?
10 YOE
3500 and save the rest
3500 seems a bit on the low end unless I look for a studio walking distance from work (Rincon Hill) or get a 1bd with daily public transportation commute.
You need to tell us your cash comp as well unless that TC is quarterly bonus and quarterly RSU for public company. Because you are only going to be able to afford or even qualify for what you have cash / salary to pay for.
200k base, 20% bonus, 560k RSUs vesting over 4 years.
Get a 1bd in south beach soma area. Save the rest.
You can find 1 bedroom for 3k.
What company? Yoe?
3K low end, up to 4.5 if you find something great
How did you move from 120k to 380k? Any tips?
LA tc is different than bay.
I don't have a computer science degree so your experiencing might be different. I never heard of things BFS or dynamic programming until 1 month before I started interviewing. Lots of studying and practicing leetcode problems. I think the biggest for me was all those 10 years of experience designing scalable systems at my current (underpaid) job.
You could live with 10 room mates and pay 750 a month. And then put the rest into Bitcoin.
6k per month. Don't pay too much and make it worse for the rest.
They can’t afford that just for housing.
Yes, but it is a reasonable budget for San Francisco. 🙅
