Has anyone thought about living in a van to save money on rent? Especially in cities that rent is just crazy high. Might be a good idea to try it for a while and save some money. Any thoughts?
Have fun staying single
I am married, and I was thinking about living in a van with my wife.
Why would you ever want to do that?
Yes! Down by the river.
Now, let’s get started by me giving you a little bit of a scenario of what my life is all about! First off, I am 35 years old.. I am divorced.. and I live in a van down by the river! Now, you kids are probably saying to yourself, “Now, I’m gonna go out, and I’m gonna get the world by the tail, and wrap it around and put it in my pocket!!” Well, I’m here to tell you that you’re probably gonna find out, as you go out there, that you’re not gonna amount to Jack Squat!!” You’re gonna end up eating a steady diet of government cheese, and living in a van down by the river! Now, young man, what do you want to do with your life?
What? Now I am confused. If you are living in a van, you’ll have more money to spend in better diet and still save more money than renting a house.
His handle is ex googler, so maybe doesn't earn as much. But then again if you aren't at Google, why live in the van in MTV? is your new job in MTV? Could be his choice to live an "ironic" life too, like those billionaire trust fund kids who go to art schools and live in dingy apartments. Wish you the best Google. Hope you turn your life around.
Get a sleeping bag and live at the office. For best results get into FAANG where you have shower and laundry facilities on site. No need for a van.
Do they allow that? That’s actually a great idea for a single person. Would be crazy cool to try it for a while. Lol
Don't need a sleeping bag when you've got nap pods
Yea, I live in Dublin making 42k. I can afford rent and cost of living but I am not able to save much. So I was thinking I try this until I get a higher tc
Did people's mind explode when they found someone makes a real world salary? OP, how about a mobile home? Vans will be the target of parking rules changing all the time. The manufactured or mobile homes are nice enough with less depreciation, I suppose.
Is your TC really that bad??
There was an article somewhere that some google engineer lived in a car on Goog parking lot. He stayed late so people won’t burn him. :)
I think he had a bucket too for when it was the middle of the night and he didn’t want to go back into the office
Where do you think E3 Googlers in MV who don't want roommates live in?
It would be better to sleep at work than to pay extra for a van
You can get a used utility van for just a few thousand, and it won't depreciate much because of the utility aspect, so the long-term cost is really just a few hundred bucks in depreciation. Definitely worth the extra privacy and storage space
