Are you logged into your personal email account or messenger on your work laptop?

If you are, does the company own any personal projects that might be referenced in your email/chats even if you aren't coding at work or anything?

I don’t. I use my phone for personal stuff. Specially in the age of notifications, I don’t want to risk the wrong message popping up during a presentation. I have very separate public and private opinions and discussions on topics which should never bleed over.

You comment on Blind, you're well past that point lol

How so? I’m under the assumption this is anonymous.

You know you can turn off notifications?

Yeah but I just wouldn’t feel comfortable. It’s easy to accidentally allow them.

If I have multiple gmail accounts, along with other personal communication services running, the ambient stress level goes up.

Blind will get hacked eventually, and the number of bugs in the app makes me think it'll be sooner than later. Even if not, you can pretty much assume your data will be sold sooner or later given that like any other startup it will want an exit

Oh I see. perhaps thats what the earlier commenter was implying. In which case, I’m small fish. Perhaps I should make a habit of pruning old comments though, like on reddit.

Doubt it'll help. Most companies don't delete data unless they really have to. Likely scenario is that anyone deleting a comment just flips a flag to not show it on the app

Imagine you're an employer. Do you really think you could win if you sued an ex employee for this? I'm not a lawyer, but I'd be shocked if a court gave you IP on stuff that just happened to be in a gmail account they left logged in. That would be like saying you own all their FB pictures as marketing assets

Yep, login into Gmail which I would likely use to schedule interviews etc. Will I have to pay part of my salary to Amazon in that case? 😁

The real question is, do you leetcode on your work laptop? The company likely owns your personal projects regardless.

Most companies nowadays are putting in the offer / handbook that they own everything you do. Even if on the weekend, on your own time on your own computer. Especially if you work at a place like google which has a huge variety of products. How can you say this thing I built that’s in competition with the work I do is built just by me.
It’s just a nature of the game. Even though it’s rarely enforced it’s still there. Look it up

Generally only if its even remotely related to your work. SWIM built an app and the company swim worked at full time had an app... so their lawyers were on SWIM’s ass about a cease and desist. The apps weren’t related. They both just existed on the app store. SWIM told them to f off. They escalated.

      fyi: not my current employer.

If you open your gmail on your work laptop, your company owns your email at that point
