Looking for a Digital Designer role or work for a Startup in NYC
I’m trying to leave Nashville due to a lack of design jobs here. I want to live in NYC because the markets I want to be in are strong there.
I’m all set to leave, I just need a career and I’m can leave the next day.
Amazon is coming to save the day in Nashville. Does that not excite you? That said, I’d guess there’s plenty of DD work in NYC. I’d suggest you make extended visits here to immerse yourself. It’s a unique city, and it’s difficult to convince people you belong here when you’re at a distance.
Yeah the office is almost built but Nashville infrastructure isn’t all that well. Plus creatively, Nashville drains my creativity. It’s too content here. I have a place in Queens, NY but I can’t go there without no income coming in.
The jobs that Amazon are bringing are most likely going to be “office jobs”.
I’m just kidding. If you’re not in Seattle then don’t bother working for Amazon (and it sucks there, too). I wish I had specific advice for your career but I don’t. I’m just saying that NYC is an immersive experience, it’s kind of hard to penetrate from a distance. I figured it out as a SWE in 1995, pre internet and cell phones (they were available but I and most had neither). Thus I had to immerse myself for a month to make the move. (Not easy because it was from mid-Dec to mid-Jan, which is always slow; but the historic blizzard was in there as well.) Even with modern technology today, I still think you have to do that to some extent.
