Looking for a mentor (serious)

I've been noticing my anxiety spinning out of control and I'm feeling pretty lost in my career lately. I would love to have a mentor that could help me out regain focus or help me understand what decision is best to make from here. Ideally someone experienced and somewhat successful in their career but really anybody who can genuinely help and devote some time to help a complete stranger, I'd be happy to hear from. Someone who has gone through a rough/similar path or helped a friend before and had a positive outcome. I'd be sharing a lot of personal and professional info about myself so it needs to be a trustworthy person. The way we communicate can be however is easier for you. I also know this may not come free and will seriously consider paying a % of my salary if this mentoring results in me getting a job in a better team/company. I can share more about me as needed, but an overview is: experienced professional in PM now trying to get into Software Development (going to school for it), recently changed teams because of burn out but ended up in a worse work environment than before. YOE (PM) 5y YOE (SWE) < 1y TC 90k Thank you and happy holidays.

This is exactly how I thought/think about having a relationship in life as mentor like we have other relationships. Many people offer a one time advice but I would trust someone's advice more if they know more about me as a person, my abilities and thought process. I assumed that such relationships only exist in movies but I recently found one when I wasn't looking. My mentor's contributions in my life are invaluable. I would gladly pay him for his time and commitment but he doesn't want it. I don't want to push because I don't want to be disrespectful. I have no idea how I can ever repay in a meaningful way. But I know I will always look for an opportunity to contribute to his life in some way, the way he does to mine. No matter how strange the need for a mentor may seem to others, believe me, it's as valuable as any other relationship in life. I hope you will find someone great. Keep me posted. Feel free to DM me if you need to talk to someone about your experience. I, for sure can't mentor you considering my limited professional and life experiences. But I can be supportive in your journey. Good luck!

Thank you Wayfair! Funny story, I recently applied to a few jobs there at Wayfair in Boston. Have a former colleague who referred me and thought it would be relatively easy to get a face to face interview. After the phone interview with the recruiter, I got a rejection email. Turns out I have too little experience in what I want to do, and too little desire to continue doing what I have been for years. Just blows my mind to see how hard it is to switch lanes.

Resistance is high only the first time. Believe me. I was an electrical engineer not so long ago. Initially, the resistance made me feel suicidal. Now I'm so much more confident in what I can do. It's just a phase. Hang in there.

Hey fellow, I’d consider finding a tag-along buddy who’s in the same boat instead of a mentor who’s much further along. Pairing up reduces anxiety and increases potential for success. Good luck to you!!

Would you mind sharing your profile? It will be easier to relate to someone with similar profile.

Thanks SAP, I wouldn't be opposed to it at all. I just don't know where to find them. A mentor or a tag-along buddy, it's hard to find people who have the time and disposition. I know I don't, with work and school now anyways..

I can’t mentor you but feel free to DM if you want to chat. I made the PM to SWE change a few years ago and know a couple others who have done the same.

Clover Health 🤖beepboop Dec 2, 2019

Did you go through a bootcamp?

I did not go through a boot camp. I already had a CS background. The others I know who switched either had a CS degree or switched roles internally and learned on the job. I’ve known successful boot campers but they came from completely different industries. I don’t know any bootcampers that switched from PM.

Thank you, I quickly saw the website and will read more about it after work. What would you say is the outcome of the professionals that seek this service?
