So I'm looking to start an LLC and I'm prepping names, logos, and other stuff. I was thinking of using a service like legal zoom help out. Is this a smarty or ok decision? Also any other suggestions or business tips or startup thoughts? (I am in LA)
It's a straightforward form. Look for info on CA sec of state website. Rtfm and you'll be fine...with a little bit of patience
It depends what you want to do with your LLC. The actual registration part is the least of your issues. You need to understand the tax issues and if you are going to have other members you need to have all your legal i's dotted and t's crossed. So what do you want an LLC for?
It would be for a game company. We'd distribute only digitally on steam.
So by we I presume more than one member. Spend some $ and get a lawyer. Money saved in lawyers now may cost you 10 or 100 x later to fix.
Make sure you understand ownership and moonlighting implications if you're employed by a tech related company
or work in the city of SF, where anti-moonlighting clause is banned
If you expect to open multiple business in your lifetime, it would be a great experience to open one yourself. Most likely, that would save initial cost in opening your own business. For taxes, that is something you might want someone acknowledgeable. I recommend looking for a solid CPA.
Where is the Startup_aas? Let's fill out JSON forms and file by API.
Reading there is more than one of you. Before the LLC, get a formation agreement executed with your partners, and make sure it covers, among other things, seperation (both voluntarily and forced, say if someone flaked.) There is no need to use a business to form your LLC for you with state, register with IRS, declare S-Corp, get city business license. However, whether using or not, these formation businesses do not give advice and you really need to be on top of things like taxes so should consult an accountant etc. for advice, but file things yourself. Form in the state where you'll operate to save $ and extra paperwork for registering a foreign corporation. Re logo, I'd recommend crowd sourcing with 99Designs or similar. Ditto for business cards.
I use legal zoom for all my corporate stuff great service.
Try Clerky. You may need to incorporate.

Depends on your needs, but I strongly recommend registering in WY. Legal zoom will charge you $80 to get something as simple as EIN (takes 2 mins and is free to do). Check out www.wyomingagents.com
The main reason for filing in WY (or NV) is for the strong liability protection and corporate veil laws. However, you still need to register as a foreign agent and pay income taxes in the state in which you operate. It's slightly more paperwork overall, but worth the added protection if you're a sole proprietor and/or have an internet based product or service that operates in a lot of states with different laws. I am not a lawyer, but I have several LLCs in WY.
