I lost my car keys. Fortunately I had a spare so was able to use it. Called one of the locksmiths, he quoted me $190 to replace a car key fob. Is this reasonable or should I keep calling other people for quotes? Sounds outrageous to me for just a key. Car is a 2007 Toyota Camry. What are my options?
Buy on Amazon and program it yourself... $20 is all it takes
Don't I need to cut the key if I buy it on Amazon? Is it easy to program it? And how do I find out where to do that?
In certain instances you have to buy an additional device to help you program it which costs between $50-$150. Find some cheap Mexican car fob programming place to do it for you.
Get a replacement from the Toyota dealer
Won't that be even more expensive?
Yes it will be
Depends. What’s your tc?
Im poor, have mercy
Home depot or amazon, 10 to 40 bucks
You will need to initiate the car key fob pairing sequence and then these will work.
You’ll need a transponder key for the immobilizer and that is dealer-only. Don’t waste you money with eBay or locksmiths. They might get you entry but they won’t get you reliable starting. Swallow your pride and head to the dealer.
What's a transponder key? The guy said dealers would charge $300-$400. :(
There’s a rolling 128 bit near field chip in every key. 10 chips are coded to your ECU in the factory. The codes are only partially transmitted to the cars. They cannot be copied to a new key and both remain in sync. You must buy a replacement at the dealer. If you don’t need two keys then live with it. We only have one key for our car and it’s fine.
Cant u google this
Buy a Tesla
buy one on amazon and take to dealer to program.
Your car is not even worth your key. Better buy a new car😁
I hate cars, bought second hand :/
