Today is one of those low days for me, where i feel i’m the most insignificant person at work. Some days are just top of the world feelings. I wonder if other people have the same feelings too?

- I have a lot of low days and not too many high ones. Back when I was in grad school and making discoveries, I felt like I was on top of the world. Working at a corporation, never.
- I miss grad school more than I could ever have thought possible. I did it while working, so the contrast was stark: fascinating research all afternoon, then off to a dull job at night, then sleep all morning and do it again the next day.
Now it's work only. No discoveries, no publications, no thrills, no fun. Just unrelenting KPI demands and a boss I try to avoid.
- gotcha. usually I do some pretty neat stuff at work, we end up submiting patents and solve problems that do no one has done before... and it really feels like it impacts a lot of people.
in grad school it was just super lonely + experiments that went wrong 90% of the time. of course there is that 10% which you actually found something new and publish it and etc., but meh. my mental health could not handle it. and it takes a while until the industry actually adopts what you did, it's mostly just for the academia.
