What is the 1.5 he programming test? Is it typical leet code syle problems or objected oriented design or what to expect there? Can some one who has done on-site recently shed some light please?
You are given a problem statement. You have access to internet and online resources. You are expected to read input from stdin parse it, and spit the output on stdout. It is important to get a working(compile and run) solution first, and then optimize. Interviewer spend first 15 minutes to disuss the problem and approach, last 15 min to discuss solutions and other questions. You essentially have an hour to code. Solution usually involve using multiple ds at a time (eg lru cache), but expect a problem which is not on leetcode. Also, the interviewer can see your screen, and you are expected to refer your sources if you copy code.
Tip: don’t waste time with the whiteboard. Take notes on the laptop.
Do you get to pick the language?
What's in your resumes if you're getting Lyft on-sites? I couldn't get a phone screen. Either because I'm older or because I don't have a US degree.
You should probably just apply to another location or role. Probably just not a good fit. You could make a second fake resume to test your theory and apply. That’s what I did when applying to Bloomberg so I could test whether they discriminated against people with disabilities.
I don't care about Lyft. So many other companies. It's just weird I can clear most phone screens and I even didn't need one for Google but Lyft decided I'm not a good fit based on my resume.
It’s about a Leet Code medium. 90 minutes is more than enough time to finish. The entire on-site experience is extremely positive. I see now why they’re a top company. For me, I think the two system design interviews are much harder and the thing to prepare for. I had done 400 LeetCode problems before walking in, and zero system design prep, and was a no hire because of system design performance. The recruiter said my code was good, but my system design performance was “ok”, which means no-hire, so know going in you have to be fantastic. Also, I forgot to mention, they talk about the entire interview process on there blog. It matches the blog post exactly. https://eng.lyft.com/interviewing-with-lyft-engineering-7d3dd65b2001
I had bad interview experience and recruiter experience. One of the interviewer spend 30 minutes telling me that he is the senior most engineer on the floor and worked for the best team in fb previously. Also, humiliated me by repeatedly showing why the work I am doing is not complex before even letting me explain completely. I got the offer but declined. This is most likely one off experience, as most people had positive experiences.
Thanks for sharing. I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s also frustrating that one person can ruin the entire company for you.
Wow, is Lyft really such a psycho company?
Recruiter might have shared a couple of example questions that you might expect. If not, ask them to share it.
