Has anyone tried M1finance? They are a free robo-advisor / brokerage combo, but they only allow ETFs? I have a couple of Vanguard mutual funds, but in addition to them, i’m thinking of opening an ETF account in M1finance. Did anyone have any experience using it?
It looks like a solid new player in the robo-advisor space. They allow much more customization than Wealthfront or Betterment but don't have the more complex features such as direct indexing and tax loss harvesting. Many people think (including me) think such features are more than offsetting the 0.25% fees that WF and Betterment ask. Other thing to consider. Being free is great but it raises big questions on how they'll be able to survive for years or decades. If they disappear, your money would be safe BUT your accounts will be liquidited and that will likely create a huge tax hit.
