ML/AI at Apple
How is the effort in AI/ML at Apple since JG joined and took over as Chief Strategist? I have a solid background and experience in ML/AI and I’m considering joining the company. Is it a good time to do that?
AI is now at the center of Apple but there is much room for growth in all areas. Apple’s approach is grounded by respect for user’s privacy, and with the goal to create the best consumer products in the industry. This is in contrast to the goals of other companies. Apple is a great company to do AI/ML at and the future hardware roadmap is spectacular.
Now is a great time to join Siri ML. They make sure to exceed competing fb/G offers by a large margin.

See post from Maryjane above. Depends what you went out of it: infra wise at least a decade behind google, and behind FB too but by smaller margin. That may well change quickly. If coming in from a PhD, unlikely to be on a team where you will be developing ML research grade knowledge. Flip side is easier to take ownership of projects if you have experience; question is whether that ownership will translate into results other companies might value down the line. Which team you are joining is far more important than in other companies, so your mileage may vary, but above is broadly true imo.
No one knows about impact because it is so new. Right now it looks like teams maintaining status quo. The offers are pretty awesome though..
For JG sky is the limit on comp. can easily beat any G/FB offer
