MS L62 to AMZN L5

Having a tough time deciding between a new opportunity. Currently L62 at MS making 255k (includes 25k sign on), L63 promo coming up. AMZN L5 offer at 260k. I find work interesting in both positions and like both teams. I'd have to pay back sign on if I leave. What do you think?

Asking to join Amazon is like begging for a bubonic plague infection. Stay away.

Microsoft interesti Mar 20, 2019

Your TC goes down by joining Amazon. Pay insurance premium, small 401k match etc. Food and all will cost more as well not to mention stress and work hours will be likely worse. Move makes sense if your TC is 180k but your TC at Microsoft is higher than many 63s and even 64s. None of my colleagues move there for less than 20% increase.

get to 63 and jump as senior at fb or g

Microsoft y83j Mar 20, 2019

Location? What’s the breakdown of your 255K TC? That’s a lot higher than average L62.

Microsoft Brazuka Mar 20, 2019

Amount of L62 lying about their tc is too damn high today at blind.

Not sure why you are having a tough time deciding this one!

L62 @ 255k? *cough* bs *cough*

Easily possible for a high performer with on-hire stock still vesting. Once you cross 4 years at msft, you’ll more likely to make far less than a new hire at the same or slightly lower level.

Microsoft ejck25 Mar 20, 2019

No. Not remotely easily possible. If they're a college hire it's impossible as stock would expire unless they're the second coming of gates. If they're industry hire to get 230k+/year they'd need absolute max base with 300k stock/4 year on-hire. That doesn't happen that I've ever heard of as a hiring manager. These are L64 numbers

Amazon sde007 Mar 20, 2019

OP Already mentioned 25K signon. Even 230K is unrealistic for L62. I hope you’re not including everything in this 230K like 401K match, 20% full annual bonus

Microsoft kerbal OP Mar 20, 2019

I'm realizing I'm very well paid. Until now blind had me believing I was underpaid.

Google Mmkaay Mar 20, 2019

Why shouldn’t 401k match be included? It is $9500 of free money that Amazon doesn’t offer - I know Amazon has inferior 401k matching policy. OP can even count ESPP discount which results in another $2k after tax guaranteed money. OP should also account for better benefits at Microsoft like health insurance
