Hi guys, I have MSFT and Intel stocks which make 65% of my total stock potfolio. Question What should be ideal stop loss amount I should put if market crashes overnight ? Should I sell them now and put them in ETF and/or mutual fund ? Or keep them since both of them are doing really good so far.
That’s too much in tech. I would sell 90% of that and go Vanguard index funds. You’ll sleep like a baby. Both MS and Intel are old. Getting eaten at all levels. Beware of the ‘growth’ stories they tell themselves. Read about BlackBerry, Motorola, Nokia and Dell. Don’t be greedy and risky, protect your wealth and diversify.
Check MSFT numbers before "bewaring"
He has a totally valid point. Even though Microsoft is in a good position right now, so were most of the companies he listed above. You can never know when and where disruption will come. I do believe strongly in Microsoft, at least for the next while, but nevertheless I advocate for diversification. And I’m one of those who doesn’t own MSFT shares (and sell ESPP and bonus shares as I get them) to not expose myself too much, given my salary too depends on the same company.
Invest into bonds and CDs if you're expecting the next market crash.
Be careful MSFT has gone up but hasn’t really outperformed majority of the tech stocks on the Nas. Sell and purchase others like Google and Amazon too
Terrible advice. Sell and purchase non-tech stuff too, instead.
65%? gtfo immediately
Diversify, diversify! Get also bonds and commodities, and don’t focus just on tech. Consider using robo advisors too like Wealthfront that build and manage a balanced portfolio for you.

Holding Intel stock right now is a huge risk. Even the Intel CEO sold all his stock last month. Google it.
Because in the end, Intel's customers don't really have much option. If you are using complete COTS hardware maybe you could switch to AMD, but the largest buyers have fully custom server systems, they would have to redesign from scratch.
But if I put my sell orders for roughly 5% at trailing stop loss, than I can be in safe position isnt it. ?
I’ve answered above: Well, a sell order is filled if you find someone willing to buy at that price. If, hypothetically, Microsoft went bankrupt tomorrow, your shares would be worth 0 regardless of your stop orders.

I sold off a chunk of Intel when it hit a high a couple months ago. Intel pays a dividend and why I kept it for longer than normal after leaving Intel. I would diversify your portfolio a bit, but it depends on your investment strategy.
Oh you we're in Intel ? Where Columbia ?
