MSFT vs AWS vs Google (PM / TAM)

PM at MSFT currently and being approached for a TAM role at both AWS and GCP. Google also approaching for some Pm roles. Have had bad luck when it comes to landing a team at Google in the past however.

Anyone have any insight into AWS -
Especially the TAM role? Approached at L6

Have lots of friends at Google and they’ve approached me for multiple positions.

Microsoft has been good to me but interesting offers arising so I’m curious.

TAM is an enterprise support role ... you will be assigned to an enterprise customer who has enterprise support.

So, is it basically just doing support?
Sounds like TAM at Microsoft which doesn’t sound fun. TAM at google sounded like a CSA role.

It’s not like TAM at Microsoft. TAMs at Microsoft own the “support relationship” and are basically just support sales people. There are exceptions but they are few and far between.

AWS TAM is much more technical. You get into as much actual troubleshooting/support as you want (with support engineer available to actually cover). Also, depending on what kind of TAM (there are 3-4 different flavors covering different size accounts for example) you will also work with Solution Architects (or in your own) to design solution architecture for customer workloads.

You are in support org and you do get notifications when incidents are opened. You are there more for management/visibility though as support engineers are on the hook to actually resolve most the time. The whole “you get paged in the middle of the night” thing isn’t really accurate except in a few rare customers/instances.

Yeah, can’t say I’d be thrilled going into GCP though Google seems tempting.

Don't come to GCP. Also Google isn't what it used to be.

TAM you will be 24/7 cell support for a customer. Work life balance could suffer. Also no product influence vs. PM

      Thanks for the feedback.
Was worried about it being a 24/7 support job. GCP sold it as more a CSA style role where you were upselling and implementing, AWS I know nothing of.

Program* but was really just a question.
The comp definitely seemed fine based on initial conversation of low 200’s

Where are you located? Can tell you from recent personal experience that you can get L6 offer in Midwest for $225k TC. I would guess that in Seattle/Bay area that could push to 240-250k which is what others have said on Blind before.

Unless you're looking to move towards sales or customer success, TAM seems like just an odd direction from program management. Just my two cents.
