Mac vs Ubuntu for coding

I do full-stack development in my XPS Ubuntu laptop and loving it, except the battery life, which is horrible. So I started thinking about a Mac. How is it these days for Java/Android/Docker development (i use intellij)? Anyone made the switch and loving it? Or vice versa? Please comment as well if you made the switch

why are two shitty choices the only ones? Mac is for people who can't be bothered to understand how a computer works and Ubuntu is for people who think they do.

I hope Zillow drives a model T to work so that he could REALLY understand how his car works while using it

What? Because the first thing I think of when needing to do my day job develop is learning a unique Linux variant, barely supported by my corporate IT, instead of focusing on my work. Or pick Ubuntu or Mac and get on with the job.

That I can agree with, I feel sorry for vim users. The removal of the magnetic power connector too. Jobs wouldn’t have stood for any of that mockery ...

Strange, my mid-2014 dell xps 13'' with 14.06 ubuntu with minimal tweaks is capable of living up to 6 hours. I use Mac too, but I'm not a huge fan of it, some apps are not 100% compatible with Mac OS, one example is docker networking. I use debian on my desktop already and the more I use it, the more I like it. I'm thinking of making permanent switch to linux dev env.

You're an exception. I just googled it again and found a bunch of reddit post complaining about this same issue even with the newer kernel

Mac os sucks balls. I will say this a thousand times.
The UX on the OS is terrible - the finder, slingshot, windows, terminal, and the general experience.
Gnome, Cinnamon, Pantheon, Budgie are all way ahead. They work just fine 95% of the time. Mac as a machine is great but it's way too expensive anyway.

Don’t you dare put the macOS terminal in that list! I’ll start throwing punches 😂

Worst part for me is the keyboard. Little tactile definition is the cause of a lot of missed strokes.

Gnome >>>>> macos for all things productivity. (now is where some Mac fan jumps in and tells me how he is so much more productive with mouse gestures yet hasn't learned to type)

it's not possible to be a professional IT worker and use windows. the two are mutually exclusive.

Outside of Silicon Valley most people work on windows. It’s hard to believe but I guess not everyone can afford to buy their employees 4,000 dollar MacBook pros. I feel bad for those poor windows users.

It's not the battery - has been that way since the beginning. It's dual-boot so windows runs for 6 hours while Ubuntu lasts 2

Have you looked into why this happens? Maybe other people have figured out how to fix it. Have you tried Debian to see if it’s the same?

I always get better battery life on Linux than on Windows when I dual boot my machines. You should look into why this is happening
