I accidentally shared my current compensation with my reporting manager. My official manager is different. To my surprise, my reporting manager told me that he makes same as me and he is jealous of me as he has been with the company for >8 years and I’ve recently joined on a lower title and still make same as him. Any advice on how to navigate this?
You will be in same boat few years down the road. Some college graduate will make more than you eventually 😂 Tell above to your manager and go with him for drinks !!
I know. I didn’t have the heart to tell him.
Ahah I was in the same boat in a startup I joined long time ago. I agreed to join in seed with a low base and not that many stocks because... Startup. 1 year later after raising a Series A, I learn that my colleague that I consider not as good as me makes more Base and got double stocks. I quit 2 months after, told my manager that I know they fucked me and that there is nothing they can do about it
Oh and this is the best move I did in my career. I was at a low point in my career, not very valued over there and when I realized that they didn't value me at all it gave me an electroshock and it went so much better everywhere else I went to
The first person I hired straight out of college made more money than I did after 10 years of experience. I was pissed but it gave me the info to fix it with my manager.
Faux Pas #2 when he reads this thread 😀
This could backfire. He could go to his manager and say that you told him your salary, and he demands a raise immediately.
Time to kick the bucket. He will screw you over
Guys, reading through blind really feels as if the inflation has arrived.
So... The company is fucking him over and he's upset. That's fine. You did not do anything wrong, you empowered him to ask for a better deal.
I agree. I hope he sees it. Although, he says he loves the work.
You don't control his wage, so 🤷
