Depending on how long you're gone you may also want to put the car on jack stands so you don't get flat spots on your tires
A matt will also help with this and works well for motorcycles in the winter.
I though that wasn’t necessary with modern tires? Unless you’re storing for years maybe?
I had been away for 2 months and 2 out of 3 cars were fine. I would recommend getting a trickle charger if the battery is old.
How old are your cars? I bought a cpo car 3 yr old recently and my car doesn't start after 1 week of not driving. Dealer says batter is good as it passes the test :( Have to go on long vacation and worried about this!
The ones that were fine are 2-3 years old with stock batteries. The one whose battery died was a 2011 Jeep, with a 5 year old battery. Just get a trickle charger and you should be fine. If you don’t have a garage you could consider getting a CAT 3 in 1 jump starter from Costco for about 100 bucks. Worth the money.
A battery will last many months. If you ate taking 6 month vacations just got an at home jump battery pack. Not a big deal.
My 3 yr old cpo car recently bought died because of not using for a week Dealer says battery is good :(
It's clearly not so replace it for 100 bucks from Costco or aaa and move on? A new battery will have a warranty and less hassle than carrying a charger. The only place I use a trickle charger is on boat batteries.
I have a solar panel hooked up via lighter port (which is always on) and it trickle charges the battery just fine. You will have to leave it in an area where it gets some sun.
Leaving your car outside for weeks unattended to charge via solar seems like a much worse idea than inside with a charger plugged in
Off course, if you have access to an electrical outlet in your garage just buy a trickle charger. I have a covered parking with no electrical outlet so went with solar panels.
Guys, your cars eat up power while sitting idle, computer(s), alarm, stereo, etc all eat up power when the car is turned off. Some cars will only last a few weeks before the battery dies. Go to any auto parts store or Amazon and buy a battery minder: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/schumacher-electric-4926/tools---equipment-16488/electrical-16813/battery-chargers-17652/f796498a3a1f/schumacher-electric-battery-maintainer/sc1319/5565336?q=battery+chargers&pos=6
If it’s an older car, you can pull the negative lead and it last for months. You may lose radio settings or other config settings. I’ve heard some newer cars don’t deal well with this though so check your manual.
I have the same issue with my 2005 Pacifica, esp. when it is cold. Battery and alternator checks out fine they say. I agree there are slow charge drains somewhere. I bought a trickle charger and wired in the plug to the battery so I can easily plug it in from outside. I keep it on the trickle charger all the time when it is in the garage (and pretend it is a Tesla). I only drive it once every couple months! (I travel for work and we have a smaller, newer, Sonic we use mostly).
Yours is 2005 but mine is 2016 😭

If the battery is less than 3 year old it should be ok for even a month without driving. If you have a garage , you can get electric charger which you can hook to your battery
