I'm an incoming Software Engineer Intern at Facebook London (last internship before graduation). I want to 1. Get a return offer 2. Progress as much as possible as an engineer. I have 4 months to prepare. I'm looking for advice both on how to prepare and how to act during the internship itself. Thanks so much.
Some general tips I followed at Google, but will probably apply anywhere: - Fail early and often. - Ask plenty of questions, no matter how stupid. - Set up plenty of 1:1s with the right people (mentor, manager, team lead, people on teams you're interested in, etc.). - Ensure your code is well documented and well tested. - If someone asks you to do a code review, try to do it ASAP to unblock them.
Practice coding beforehand. Good interns are expected to produce a lot of decent quality code. During the internship don’t get too distracted by all the fun activities, stay focused on the work. Also, let your manager know if you don’t understand something or need some help. There are no stupid questions.
Thank you so much! Anything else? :-)
Try to finish your project a week before your internship ends. That's it.
