Are we planning on charging him with a crime?, or is that just an unnecessarily detail from the quaint pre-resistance world

Rikers is violent and solitary is inhumane. Even for Manafort.

I hope people outraged today are similarly upset when others (mostly from marginalized communities, and who the media doesn’t cover) are in the same inhumane circumstances.

What about dead migrant children? Conservatives were totally cool with that.

Ugh I know. Heartbreaking. I hope people are arrested and face consequences for that.

      Good to see some consistency

      I’m confused - what’s the consistency issue?

Rikers and solitary are inhumane and disproportionately hurt marginalized communities (low-income people, people of color, etc). Manafort is unintentionally drawing attention to an issue primarily affecting those whose voices are rarely heard. Can’t stand the guy, but if he can inadvertently raise awareness of the need for criminal justice reform, I’ll take it.

  • I am personally glad when the rich and powerful get prosecuted the same way I would if I committed the crime

Well I think that’s exactly the point, if you committed those crimes would you end up in Rikers island solitary? I don’t think so

Reminder: Tony Podesta, one of the most powerful lobbyists in the country and brother to the guy who ran the Hillary campaign, did the exact same thing Manafort was indicted for yet was never charged for anything.

Bonus fact: John Podesta, who ran the Hillary campaign and worked in the Clinton White House, sold his energy company to Putin.

This sort of stuff goes all the way to some world leaders. In America, we only dabble in corruption - but other world leaders (even superpowers) have major major problems. This is also isn’t about one aisle or the other, it’s about control of governments which have the power to strike something down / deem it illegal or pave the way to lucrative contracts / deals.

Yes it is. The charges directly relate to lobbying for the Ukrainian group. One of them is failing to register as a foreign lobbyist and the bank/monetary “fraud” he’s charged with deals with the money exchanged with the Ukrainians. Tony Podesta retroactively registered for foreign lobbying after getting caught doing the same thing Manafort was doing.

So Trumptards suddenly care about human rights and compassion now since it's "their guy"? I thought they were all for "tough against crime" and "they shouldn't have broken the law if they didn't want their kids to die"

He isn’t accused, he was convicted.

Did he do something to deserve it?

Solitary is cruel even for a lot of violent criminals. I'm sure the progressives will stick to their principles and advocate humane treatment for the accused.

He was convicted of Tax fraud, bank fraud, failing to disclose a foreign bank account.

He was accused of and had a mistrial declared (a juror held out) for some other wild charges like conspiracy against the US, money laundering, false statements, and failing to register as a foreign agent of Ukraine.

I’m pretty sure that solitary confinement is a chosen form of bargaining / accommodation because of his public fame. You can’t be sentenced to solitary confinement from a Judge, just a warden.
