Manager vs Senior manager risk at Amex

I am trying to understand how are responsibilites different for a manager vs a senior manager in risk team at Amex. Is it true that Amex always offers a position lower than intended and then the candidate has to negotiate well to get what he/she deserves?

Not always true, depends on what you bring to the table, yoe, particular expertise... sr manager is a bit stronger on the leadership side, leading a team, working with directors... manager is executing tasks..

I don't know about the Risk team specifically, but generally yes, Amex will low-ball. Push for the Sr title. In my team, the responsibilities are identical but the comp & career next-steps are not.

Yeah you need to come in strong. Amex promotes slowly. I got sr title and had a lot of experience with tech stacks they needed so was able to get b40 (director) pay, but your mileage may vary. Sr manager does not actually directly manage a team. I have engineering resources that I can use but do not write performance plans.

Yes correct about managing resources. What's the salary range for a director role?

Depends; in product and marketing, there’s no discernible difference between manager and senior manager. They will lowball you and hire you beneath the level you should be intentionally. I know someone with an Ivy League MBA and they still hired him as an analyst. I was shocked but it happens.

Ivy league MBA should not even be at amex, unless at VP level or he is waisted his investment

We have tons of them as well as 2nd tier B schools

2nd tier is fine but M7 I have hard time to get it...
