Getting a masters in data science (ai specialization) worth it when I am already working in the domain and have good experience in it?
These data science degrees are a scam. Don't fall into the trap. It is like lesbian dance theory courses. I have seen so many people having no clue what to do next. Stick to traditional masters in Computer science.
Or a traditional masters in statistics Data science “degrees” are really just trade school diplomas.
I went through the course structure and they are teaching things available in free courses online. But apart from the United States where should one look for computer science/statistics courses?
Go for it! There is a huge demand for data scientist and data engineer especially in fintech and banks.
Useless. Master is probably least evident education record of a person's true ability
Where I work, you cant pass a certain Level if you dont have a Masters. And, even if you tried to hire the person and can vouch for them it becomes a lengthy process and requires many levels of approval. You also get less pay without it.
I get what you’re saying. But this feels like an arrangement between the companies, banks and colleges who just take back whatever you’ve earned till now and even more. In the end leaving you with a loan which I what the additional pay compensates for. The whole system is flawed.
The only reason you should consider it is for a filler on your CV so when you apply places, your CV gets a green light for having a masters. Don't expect to learn much because it's literally a joke- you're basically buying a masters. Even the top 20 schools offering these degrees are full of shit. The students that come out of them don't know what a fucking hash table is.
So true. It’s messed up!
