Does google and LinkedIn/Microsoft allow new hires (<1 year) to take maternity leave? I'm interviewing and found out that I'm pregnant. Don't like what I'm doing today and will not come back here after mat leave. Thinking, I rather move now and invest my time in a new role, give it all I can before my mat leave. However, I don't want to lose the opportunity to spend time with the baby in the first few months. Any help is greatly appreciated!
you can go to maternity leave even on the first date of your employment
I looked at adobe's policy and they allow mat leave only after 1 year of continuous employment. Is that not so at LinkedIn or google?
Oh btw, Congratulations!
If you're asking about paid leave, most companies require a year with the company, otherwise you are certainly able to take leave, just unpaid.
I dont know about other states. In California, u can take leave. I think calif govt pays 60% of salary. Rest 40% depends on company policy like min 1yr etc
I had a baby 4 days short of 1 year of working at a major tech company. Because it was under 1 year I didn't qualify for any California FMLA benefits. However, the company offered 16 weeks paid maternity leave as soon as I started working there. So you NEED to figure out the company's maternity policy before you make the move... The problem is asking that sort of thing in the interview process.
yes, LinkedIn will allow you maternity/paternity leave right away (and a great one at that).
FMLA - the federal baby bonding leave you would want to take is only applicable to employees who have worked with the company for at least a year. FMLA is unpaid but ensures that your job will be there when you get back, job security. in California there is PFL - paid family leave which is paid but does not have any kind of job security does not have the 1 year requirement like FMLA. typically, people in ca will take FMLA and PFL concurrently so they get paid AND have job security. but those two are just for baby bonding time. before your baby bonding time, you will get disability. if it's a c section, you will get 8 weeks of disability to heal. otherwise, you get 6 weeks. in California, doctors allow you to start your leave at 36 weeks for a regular single baby pregnancy. so you'll get 4 weeks before the baby is born and then 6-8 weeks after. then after that time is up you would start your baby bonding, if eligible. most companies follow the law as it stands and don't let you take baby bonding if you haven't been there for a year but you could most likely take as much vacation time or unpaid leave as your manager/hr will allow. just have to talk it through with people ahead of time and find out what your company's policy is.
Thanks a lot! This is great.
Yes, once you join these companies, you can take maternity/paternity leaves as per company policy, manager can not stop you to take those vacation no matter if you are new hire or old hire!
