What's it like working as a data scientist/analyst for McKinsey? What type of projects do you typically work on? Do you get to travel? How is the pay?

You're basically a bitch to the consultants. Paid less than consultants as well. Usually end up doing pivot tables, fuzzy matching, or cross selling stuff. Same travel as consultants.
Yes everyone is correct.
As with any business, the revenue generators are the hero’s. Data scientists are support functions, not direct revenue generating because you can never be billed 100% to a client. If you are then it will be for short periods and you are building an expertise that might not be needed after a while. Consulting awards generalists - people who can adapt to different client situations easily
That way you are always billable so you are valued higher
Are you still at McKinsey?
Depends on how you position yourself, if you work closely with CST and are embedded as one with the team, you don’t get treated like a second class citizen.

I think pay is pretty decent, but a data scientist/analyst is a second class citizen in these management consultancy firms.
How so?
Consultant is a king in those companies, they have well defined career path: consultant - engagement manager - senior EM - Partner. Data scientists are always in supporting role, providing analyses/results to help consultants do their job.
